Back in October I played a part in organising a national hui held in Raglan. A well-known Maori midwife, Heather, was invited to close the afternoon with a workshop topic of her choice. She spoke about identity and cultural competence - what she had to say was raw and uncomfortable for many of us to hear, but she held the room with her powerful voice. Everyone listened.
She closed with two questions that I will never be able to forget.
I'm Michelle, based in Hamilton, raising two boys, a ginger cat and many vegetables. I have been involved with the work of Magnetic Hub since March 2015 and consider it 'home' in many ways. Accustomed to leading female-only groups, I continue to be energised by the beautiful wisdom that unfolds from women in a room, talking together.
